Sardinia

Yritämme käydä kerran vuodessa vähän pidemmällä lomalla lataamassa akkuja ja nauttimassa lämmöstä. Tällä kertaa reissu suuntautui Sardiniaan, koska olimme kuulleet juttuja paikan hienoista rannoista ja taisi asiaan vaikuttaa hyvän paikallisen ystäväni suosituksetkin. Reissu oli ihana, ja saarta tuli koluttua mukavasti. Aloitimme matkan etelästä josta suuntasimme itä-rannikolle ja lopuksi länsi-rannikon autioille rannoille. Minun suosikkini oli ehdottomasti länsi, koska tuntui että isoin osa turisteista ei sinne olleet vielä ehtineet ja rannat sekä kylät olivat tosi kauniita. Ylipäätään kyllä suosittelen Sardiniaa ja jos vaan mahdollista niin ajelemaan ympäri saarta, koska maisemat ovat huikeita! Historiallisia paikkoja löytyy myös yllin kyllin ja saari on melko mielenkiintoinen satoine nuragheineen ja tippukiviluolineen.

Ruoan puolesta matka oli myös hyvin onnistunut. Saarella kun ollaan, meren antimet olivat mitä mainioimmat. Söin reissulla ehkä maailman parhainta grillattua meriahventa, ja lempiruoakseni nousi paikallinen Fregola mitä yritän tehdä tässä joku päivä nyt itsekkin. Tietenkin pizzat ja pastat olivat arkipäivää, ja mitä yksinkertaisempaa, sitä parempaa. Meillä oli mahdollisuus myös kokkailla itsekkin, ja eräs ilta saimme loihdittua täydellisen loma-illallisen terassille. Suolattua ja grillattua meriruutanaa, Sardinialaista tuoremakkaraa, paahdetuita paprikoita, tomaatti-basilika-salaattia ja spagettia kuivatun mädin, botargan kanssa. Pullo paikallista punaviiniä ja oi miten lomalla onkaan mukavaa!

Once a year we try to take a bit longer holiday and go and charge the batteries and enjoy the sun. This time the location was Sardinia. We had heard so much about the amazing beaches and my local friend's recommendations didn't do any harm helping us with the decision. We had such good time, and luckily were able to see quite a bit of the island. We started from the south where we stayed about a week, headed to the east coast and ended up in west. I have to say that my favourite had to be the west coast, because it was still quite free from the tourists and the beaches were absolutely amazing. I would definitely recommend Sardinia as a holiday destination and if possible, get a car to go around the island because the scenery is fantastic! There are also plenty of historic stuff over there and the place is pretty interesting with hundreds of nuraghes and exciting caves.

Food wise the trip was also a success. Obviously as being on an island, the seafood was fantastic. I think I had the best barbecued sea bass in the history, and my favourite became the local Fregola which I'm planning to try to make myself soon as well. Of course pizzas and pastas were part of everyday life, and the more simple, the better. We also had an opportunity to cook ourselves, and one night we made the perfect holiday dinner ever. Salted and barbecued sea bream, local Sardinian sausage, roasted peppers, tomato and basil salad, and spaghetti with dried roe, botarga. Bottle of local red wine, and oh, how great it is to be on holiday!
